Chris Stamey - "I Wrote This Song For You"
I adore the homage to the Stax/Volt Otis Redding “Stay In School” PSA
Came here after reading Chris autobiography. So much great music and such a talented and humble guy
Dude writes such consistently great songs
Just bought, and am currently reading, Chris Stamey book, "A spy in the house of loud." Huge Stamey fan!
WoW. There’s only one comment and 16 person who liked this? My arms big enough to hold this now... .
Nifty track. Combines two artist that I love -- Chris (dbs) and XTC.
Just heard about this album. Glad I did.
Underrated. I sound hounded this a few years back as it was played on radio station in Amman, Jordan. Now I found it on my phone.
Decades of brilliant ideas translated across several media, but these chord progressions show his formal composition roots and his pre-REM REM sound . So much more.
I REMEMBER THIS BOOKLOVE IT
Chris Stamey's masterpiece. The marriage of words, melody & rhythm is stunning.
Great song and lyrics.
i love this book
Please ...
Bloody hell this is fantastic stuff,,, You should be proud of this Chris - the production is epic in a 1967 George Martin way - nothing wrong with that - those boys on the end of it knew what they were doing... Good luck for the future Chris.
Great track Chris - you've obviously been heavily influenced by The Beatles with this track in particular..
What a great track.... More of this please..
Music that Wayne Gacey would draw bunny's too! Yippy!
I hate to be negative, but this is just horrible! Check out the "brilliant" first two lines which rhyme Alone with Phone.Whether he wrote it or not the over the top/ultra serous delivery is more embarrassing than a Barry Manilow/Barbra Streisand duet! I saw this dude on the Big Star documentary and was hoping to find some great music. Ugh, stick to putting out other peoples records!
Great stuff Chris - always appreciate your songwriting and singing. Shared on my FB page. Keep 'em coming.
Awesome! Nice job, Chris!
Fab is the best way to describe this track. Can't wait to hear the album
Great song, Chris!
Sounds fab; bring on the rest!
I know him
You should do a tutorial. There is no tab for this ANYWHERE
Beautifully and expressively read, Mr. Stamey. This book is so instructive to us non-musicians! And I know your sensitive rendering will move many of today's "rock musicians" to tears. Mr. Stamey, do you own a pretty satin jacket like Rich's with stripes on the upper arms? And may I be so bold as to suggest you add "Tape Op Blues" to the background soundtrack??
Very Nice Songwriting!
Great Job Chris! Great Song
Actually, this is "Skin" off of his latest CD, "Lovesick Blues." This SECCA show was one of the most remarkable performances I have ever experienced.
I was just about to post the exact same correction. I wish I'd had the privilege to see these songs performed. Chris Stamey has, I think, a distinctive and interesting body of work. His brand newest album, NEW SONGS FOR THE 20TH CENTURY, is excellent as well.
Just saw him do a free show at the Ocean County Library in Tom's River NJ !!! Great show and great song !
I'm sure Mr Partridge will be pleased.
good song bro heard it on wxyc chapel hill nc
Lovely title track of Chris Stamey's brilliant new cd, an album on a par with his earlier masterpieces It's Alright and Fireworks!
Chris, you've packed enough into this song for 40 songs. It will reward repeat listens. A beautiful number, through and through.
Gorgeous! Great song, Chris.
Good stuff, as usual. Should be "fluorescent," though, not "flourescent." ;-)
Great job, Chris! Can't wait to hear the whole album.
Great video -- I love the combination of the lyrics and celestial/aquatic imagery. Really fits the music well.
You think Chris Stamey or whoever posted this for him doesn't know when he recorded the song . . and felt the need to correct them, while at the same time admitting the message was the same either way. I was simply pointing out they probably wrote that just to include the election date in the post. That's how I read it, since I assume they know when it was recorded - they posted it! Could be written more clearly. Agree. Not personally upset. Buy his CD. Don't buy his CD. I don't care.
And once again, some yee-haw takes a comment too personally. And yes, the comment may be construed as such. The comment should state : "Chris Stamey recorded this tune several years ago as a reminder to exercise your right to vote " No matter what year. So chill out or I won't buy the new CD.
Does the description say it was recorded recently? The song was recorded as a reminder to vote. . . no matter what year the election takes place. I think the way the description was written was simply to point out when election day is.
Actually he recorded it several years ago. Same message though.
